So I learned that I needed to turn up the ISO so I could turn up the shutter speed so I could have sharper action shots. I went out today and turned the ISO all the way up to 1600. The aperture on these two shots was f5.6. The shot of the guy was 1/1250 shutter speed, and the girl was 1/2000. I noticed some grain when I was color correcting and cropping in Gimp, but it wasn’t too bad. It was cloudy today. I think if it was sunny, I could have dialed back to ISO 800 and maybe shot with a little faster shutter speed. This was at Wilson Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Comments are appreciated.

A few more photos from the Joe Martin Stage Race
I have one more picture that shows the beginning of Lauren Hall’s crash that took out a couple of other riders, and then I have a few pictures of people not crashing. I really like the vertical shot with everyone’s heads all lined up in a row. I think there is a good balance in the photo with the racer really close in the foreground and another far away in the background. I like how they’re leaning in opposite directions. Comments are appreciated!
Joe Martin Stage Race
I went to the Joe Martin Stage Race today and shot about 300 pictures. After just a really quick initial review, these are the four shots that I was most pleased with. The sun was out in the first shot, and it was behind clouds in the others. It makes a big difference. I’m not happy that I didn’t get all of Rushlee Buchanan in the second shot, but I included it because I liked the way Lauren Hall’s foot was in the air. I felt like I really captured some emotion in the last shot, and I’m particularly proud of it. Click on a thumbnail to bring up the slide show.
Comments, criticisms, etc., are appreciated.
Museum of Automobiles
Here are a bunch of photos I made at the Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain. The lighting was horrible. I had to use a tripod and make exposures ranging from half a second to two seconds or so. However, the very last photo was different. The car was in front of a window, so I used the back-light fill flash. That’s the only thing that’s different. I haven’t done any editing to these photos. There are two slide shows because the website wants to split them up for some reason that’s beyond me.

Portraiture
Here’s a photo I took today. It’s my brother. I had the focal length at 200 mm on my telephoto lens. The aperture was F5.6, and ISO 100. Exposure was 1/125 of a second. I shot in RAW. I brightened it up just a little bit with UFRaw when I imported it to Gimp. Once in Gimp, I did minor touch-up of blemishes and whatnot. I like how having a wide aperture makes the depth of field very narrow and totally softens up the background. I also like getting pictures of people when they’re not posing. That makes the photo much more natural.
Nikon D3000 = AWESOME
I am completely head-over-heels in love with my new camera. I want to do nothing but take pictures now. I’ve started a Panoramio account and I’ve been uploading to it and Picasa. Here is some of my latest stuff. It’s Lake Overcup in Morrilton, Arkansas.
I was happy that the water was very still. Here are some more photos I took today. There was a tornado in Scotland, Arkansas, last week and I headed over there to see what I could see.
Thanks for looking.
Photography
I got a Nikon D3000. It’s my first DSLR camera. I think it will be awesome once I learn how to use it well. Here are a few examples of my first attempts. It’s obvious I need more practice. I also messed around with the pictures in Gimp. I think I probably messed around with them too much. But it’s OK.
